there was a soda like this, no? Sorry, I didn't feel like going through 6 pages of the "favorite discontinued sodas" link to find out. I want to say it tasted like Squirt or Mountain Dew.

Yes! Definitely! A bit like Mountain Dew. Bright yellow cans. I remember it well. Early-to-mid eighties.

Mellow Yellow is still alive in the Louisville area. It is not available in the wide-mouth "chug-a-lug" bottles that it was advertised in for years. It is fairly close to Mountain Dew, but not as carbonated. Think in terms of a 'Dew' with the cap left off for a few hours!!

BTW, I am sure there are Lots of things that exist outside of your little world. Mello Yello is just the tip of the iceberg. Some would say that 'Ignorance is Bliss', Don't worry, Be happy.

Mellow Yellow exists in the south. I've seen it in southern VA, NC and Alabama.
Coca Cola had another Mountain Dew clone in the '90s called Surge--now is that still around? I remember it being way too sweet and having more caffeine than Mt Dew.

BTW we have Tab and Fresca in Virginia too--usually in cans only.
Now where can I get a can of "Teem?"

I got a 20 oz. bottle of Surge out of a vending machine once when I wanted a Fresca or a Sprite or something like that and slammed half of it before I realized it was an extra-caffeinated beverage. Wahoo! Haven't done that since.

I'd forgotten about Teem. I recall liking it a lot as a kid in the 60s (I was also big on 7-Up). I think I saw it in Haiti in the late 70s. They pronounced it TAY-ma.

Loved the website RickF!!!! I added it to my favorites. I haven't had a chance to look through it all but I will soon. The only one I have tried was Inca Kola here in Texas at a Peruvian restaurant. I think it was like a mountain dew-type drink. I can tell you one thing, and this is in my totally honest opinion: England has the crappiest tasting Coca Cola and Dr. Pepper in the world!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I had to throw a can that I brought as a souvenir away recently because it busted open and I didn't want to deal with it, but now I regret it because I wanted to give you all the ingredients. I can't remember them, but I want to say one of the ingredients was "vegetable fat"????? something weird like that. well, in general our whole experience in London was terrible: it was freezing cold, the food sucked, and the people were horribly rude and sarcastic. I don't mean to generalize all brits like that, but that's the honest truth. Almost everyone we talked to looked at us like: here we go again, Americans and their american english.

Hey Vern !!! Anyone remember those late Jim Varney commercials for" Meller Yeller " ? Some of them actually were pretty funny. They are what launched Jim Varney's career .

About five years ago there was, briefly, Mello Yello Melon, Mello Yello Afterglo (kind of peach tasting) and Mello Yello Cherry.
In my neck of the woods MY recently disappeared from the shelves. Coke is heavily pushing Vault, a Mtn Dew competitor. I think Mello Yello will continue to live on only in the south.

                                  Totally off topic:

Ash what were you doing in Haiti?? I was going to email and ask but couldn't.

I was in Haiti in the 90's right up until Aristide was over thrown the first time. Talk about CHAOS!

Mello Yello is still availiable around here, but prefer North Carolina's Sun Drop to any of the mountain dewesques.
