Greasey Food Tue, 08/5/03 2:01 PM (permalink)
I don't like to go into a restaurant for breakfast, and have the salt and pepper shakers greasey. When everything is cooked in grease, and floating in grease, I mop it off with a paper napkin, and hope I can digest the food. I wish the kitchens were visible from the table. I have actually left restaurants that were smoky, and greasey, and loud. Why pay people to serve greasey foods? We often find out too late about the greasey factor.

Jim, I know this is going off on a tangent, but your statement reminded me of that great food movie *it WAS about the food, wasn't it* Pulp Fiction, when Travolta's character Vince tells Jules in the diner "Bacon's good, pork chops are good!"

I almost spit out my sip of Maker's Mark when I read this response! I'm still laughing!

Grease is great for hangovers, too.

Wasn't it Michael Douglas in the movie "Wall Street" who said "grease is good"?????

I can't believe our favorite places ask if you want lean or extra lean. Who wants lean brisket? That's not even healthy.

I have a magnet on my fridge that says "The Four Major Food Groups: Sugar, Caffeine, Grease, Alcohol". That about sums it up, doncha think?

I think if someone is going to complain about grease or the state of being "greasey(sic)" he should at least spell it right- greasy. As for me, I quote the Louisiana philosopher E. Legasse who once said, "Bam!, pork fat rules!"

This thread reminds me of the saddest thing I ever read in a cookbook, I think it was Mexican Cooking for Dummies, written by the "two Hot Tamales". It counseled vegetarians who crave bacon to eat some dried chipotle peppers, which according to them taste just like bacon. Umm, no, sorry, gotta have the grease.

Take away those and smoky and loud and I wouldn't exist. Or want to.

Umm, that would work if it were bacon-wrapped chipotles (stuffed with cheese) !
