Joker, welcome to Roadfood. In another life, I lived in Niles on Washington and Dempster. There were some great places to eat there back then: Booby's,Tasty Pup, Tommy Tucker's, Big Boy, Dales, and Niles Pizza. Booby and his wife Sally were my neigbors. I owned a driving school in Talisman Village Shopping Center. We opend in 1976, the same year as The Works. A few years later, Hot Dog Island opened. I even worked part time at ABT, back when it was on Dempster. The closest D&S is in Michigan an will reopen for the season this month. If you decide to go, contact Uncle Vic, a fellow Roadfooder from that area. Chances are good that he'll respond to your post. Right Vic? Joker, There is a Dog -N- Suds in Michigan. If you go to my website www.hotdoggintheus.com (The Largest Hot Dog Directory on the Web!!!)and go to Michigan you'll find a link to their website. Also if you go to Page 2, Misc. Links & Resources in Feb this year I posted a link for "Lost Dog-N-Suds Drive-ins". You can also search past Roadfood topics for some discusions on them.

I ate at a Dog N Suds in Richmond IL last summer. Absolutely nothing like it was in the seventies. In fact the food sucked big time. I'll never return to that location.

Chicagostyledog has it almost right There is no "Montage" Michigan Take US-31 13 miles north from the Muskegon city limits and take the Business Route US-31 exit and go west 2.3 miles through downtown Whitehall and as soon as you cross the bridge over the White River into Montague they are located immediately on the right. They serve really great genuine drive-in/car-hop food and suds along my favorite burger the triple-decker "Texasburger" that you order through the outdoor post mounted intercoms . Here are their web address links to both their location in Muskegon on the old Grand Haven-Muskegon road and to their original location in Montague, MI about 20 miles further north Norton Shores, MI (Muskegon) Dog n Suds 4221 Grand Haven Road Norton Shores, MI 49441 Phone: (231) 798-4976 Open Year round - Winter Hours Monday thur Thursday - 11am to 9pm Friday thur Saturday - 11am to 10pm Sunday - 11am to 4pm Summer Hours - Montague, MI Dog n Suds P.O. Hi, It is funny I saw this post today. We had a Dog and Suds in Ft. Wayne, In. It closed and after some time a Sonic opened up. Sonic was there for a couple of years but folded. A year goes by and all of the sudden the Dog and Suds re-opens at the same site. Glad to see it back I must say.

ShenB, I was in the Grand Rapids area every summer from 1989 through 2003 driving and instructing at Grattan Raceway in Belding with the BMW club. The club has since switched tracks to Gingerman Raceway in South Haven, a great area for summer peaches. As kids, we always vacationed in South Haven, home of Sherman Dairy, a wonderful ice cream shop. The first time I ever experienced triple nickle speeds on a motorcycle was on the Red Arrow Highway. Ones I've had where pure heaven.. Must have been the location.. (I've had both Montague and Fort Wayne (FW location now defunct).. Along with the mandatory mug of root beer). Only one left around here now is Montague, but Muskegon may be firing up from Shens reports! (Would make it about a 45 minute drive from here, that I'd be more then happy to do).. But again, until I hit the left coast of Michigan, Yesterdog in Grand Rapids will have to hold me over... :)

We had at least one in Milwaukee. It was on Sherman Blvd, a few blocks north of Villard Ave, probably on Florist. I hadn't thought about that place in years. It was fairly close to our high school yet I knew no one that ate there as even then we had a local very Roadfood-type hangout called "The Corner Cafe".

Hey Uncle V. You have to admit that an "Ultra Dog" from Yesterdog would taste pretty darned good if it were made with a perfectly grilled Koegel Dog in that bun.

There's a Dog's n Sud's about 20 minutes away from me in Tomahawk, Wisconsin. It is only open during the summer time though, which in northern Wisconsin is about three weeks long.

Last Saturday, I made an approx. four hour round trip from Chicagoland to Lafayette IN for the sole purpose of eating at the Dog n' Suds on the southeast side of town ( Sagamore Parkway aka the US 52 bypass. ) This Dn'S has been there since the mid '50s, and the owner also has a new location on Sagamore in West Lafayette ( but I only eat at the original. ) I LOVE the food at Dog n' Suds, and have since I was in high school; we used to have a bunch of them here in the Chicago area. Their Charco-burgers are great - unlike the crud at Burger King, Dn'S's burgers actually taste charcoal-broiled ( yum! ) And their special sauce is something else; for years I've been trying to figure out what gives it that wonderful flavor, and I still don't have a clue. Best of all is Dog n' Suds root beer... in my opinion, it's the #1 RB on the planet. They also employ some of the prettiest carhops I've ever seen ( I may be old, but I ain't dead! ) As you may have guessed, I enthusiastically recommend this place.
