OBX Tradition Destroyed by Fire

The Lone Cedar Cafe Restaurant was destroyed by fire last night.Located on the causeway leading into Nags head was a favorite place of mine to hit on the way in,sadly no more.

Sad to hear about the rash of fires lately.

I lost my first restaurant to fire fifteen years ago right before summer so I know how it feels and what they are going through now.

Yeah, my wife called me from work to tell me about it..... I had already been on line reading about it. I've meet the senator there waiting on customers, filling drink glasses, bring food and such. We don't swing his way politically, but still a nice guy personally.


We were going to go down this summer and we always eat there. His Sunday lunch specials were great..... loved the turkey dinner. Sad to see it gone. The local word from some of his people is they WILL rebuild. He had done some major updates over the last couple of years including a $250k redo last year. Hope they rebuild soon.

I was past Lone Cedar today. Their piling work is finished, and they are framing out at least a first floor of a new building. Their sign out front says they will be open again by late summer.

Just heard on the news that Mr.Basnights Wife has died from an extended illness.Thoughts and prayers going out to him.
