Cajun Kringle? Sun, 05/6/07 5:07 PM (permalink)
Has anyone heard of or tasted a Cajun Kringle. It sounds like a contradiction in terms. But apparently some New Orleans bakery makes them. I heard of it on some tv food show(maybe Food Network?). In any case, as I love a good kringle, this intrigues me.

I have. Haydels Bakery makes them. Very light and flaky, topped with pecans and icing. Really rich!

You can click the beginnings of the story underneath the price and it will give you an idea about the name.

They actually make a chocolate doberge cake I like better. My kids love their homemade chewing gum.

If you are familiar with the area they are on Jefferson highway headed towards Harahan from New Orleans.

Gambino's is an old and very good NOLA bakery, but apparently doesn't make kringle.

(Hey, BB, you beat me to it. Howdy anyway!

Cajun Kringle is great, a buttery-praline flavored pastry. Not sure about this, but thought they only made them during the holidays.

Kringle is I think a german or dutch pastry, and was probably started in New Orleans by a german baker.I've seen it for sale in the Swiss Colony and Figi's food catalogs and I think your right,it is mainlt at Christmas time.
