Road Food in the UK

I have occasion to work in the UK several times a yearand usually base in Cornwall, particularly Plymouth. I have grown fond of a locally produced and eaten "Cornish Pasty". The majority of the good eats are to be found in the countless Pubs. Don't ask what some of the stuff is, you'll sleep better. But I had to know what "Spotted Dick"was, so I asked. Won't do that again.

Spotted dick is nasy sticky-sweet sponge cake with raisins throughtout and to finish it off they pour clotted cream all over it. When I was laughing at this menu item the waitress asked what was sso funny , I replied that where I came from spotted dick was something you really didn't want to have, much less eat. This of course led to further discusion of two nations seperated by a common language.
