Miami, part TWO (better pics....)

hi again,

Monday, July 9th. Just finished lunch at the Doral Ale House
and I'm now heading to the beach! (finally!) (done with the malls!)

this is a postcard perfect shot of Miami Beach , right by the Eden Roc and Founainbleau Hotel ...

here's the Eden Roc.... both the Eden Roc and the Fountainbleau are undergoing extensive renovations . Don't go to the latter if you want to swim in their pool. It's been all dug up....does'nt exist for now.

It seems like whatever is not new construction in Miami Beach is getting renovated!

Woody's in North Miami Beach on Biscayne Blvd

known for their steak sandwiches. (in an area that has way too many chains now, so it was nice to see this relic still there)
I was hoping they meant an 8 ounce charred type of steak sandwich, but turns out they meant cheesesteaks. Was'nt in the mood, as I get so many good cheesesteaks in my Atlantic City area.
For those that ARE in the mood, it looks like Woody's is the place to go ...

this is the Sunny Isles area just north of Miami Beach proper.
(it goes for about 20 blocks starting at 163rd st..)
remember those small little 2 level motels like the Suez and Colonial Inn, etc?!? Almost all of them are torn down now...the area has been totally revitalized


At least the Sahara Motel still has their signage (and camels) left.
It is now some sort of real estate office, specializing in what else but condos

some of the new high rises are quite stunning...
this one was around 185th st and Collins, across the street from a new McDonalds. (in case anyone has a "Big Mac attack" they can just go down the elevator from their penthouse suite)


Then I drive up to Hallandale just north of Sunny Isles and Aventura..
It's late afternoon and I hit the beach again. Someone forgot to change the date on that lifeguard stand...as it is now July 9th.

And I'm finally ready to cool off in the ocean !

In the early evening I make it to my "home" for the next 2 nights ,
the Ramada Plaza in Hollywood, just north of Hallandale.
Great deal for $50 a night on priceline.

It was right in the middle of downtown Hollywood and just a couple of miles from the beach.

This was one wonderful afternoon!

Time for dinner! That's the one thing missing on Part 2 is FOOD pics!
I better put that on Part 3, ("the final installment"), as I learned it's best not to put TOO many pics on ONE thread. (can get tedious to do all that scrolling!!)

Anyone else in the mood to jump in the ocean now?!?

Hey, "el"! You (always) look great, and you make anyplace sound great. I swear, you could take a trip into Camden and come out with great pics somehow (or downtown Pleasantville LOL). One day we'll meet up, even with my crazy schedule.

ellen, im from the area you were in, next time try ft myers bch area much more fun and bar stuff even for kids and the sand is like mashed potatoes there not coarse.plus you can walk a mile out into the ocean and only at your hip height in water

That's funny, as you know all about downtown Pleasantville!!
I occasionally go thru there my way home from work at the casino.
Good 'ol Main Street in Pleasantville. (gosh it sounds so idyllic, for those not "in the know")
(but, as they say "Pleasantville ain't so pleasant!".

Watch out, I may just make that my next report!! (LOL) It would be a real short one, and very few pics.
But there is one decent place I like (amidst the liquor stores and what not...) It's "Kelsie and Kims Soul food and BBQ"... ever been?
their ribs taste like the real thing to me.

I can empathize with your not liking malls. Most guys I know don't go too gaga for them. I don't think my mall pics went over too well, anyway. I also had to take a little "roadfood.com" heat for ordering those buffalo wings in Miami! (re: Miami , part 1)

My favorite things about malls are just getting the exercise "power-walking" around, (espescially when it's real nasty weather outside), the book store, and seeing just what may lurk in that food court.
(usually I'm disappointed with the food court)... I like looking at the architechture and colors, and the mix of stores. Heck, if I did'nt like dealing poker so much , I think I would be great in mall management!)

I don't even do much serious shopping, usually just buying impulsive fun stuff like at Spencer Gift Shop, etc..
or I'll buy a cute shirt at a store like DEB or Rainbow shops.
I'm not a Nordstrom kind of girl..(more like Macy's/JC Penney's)
But I'll also let you look at your power tools (guy stuff) at Sears, Uncle Vic!

I avoid both Camden and Pleasantville like the plague! And I think the nicest thing about Egg Harbor (the city, not the township) is Renault Winery.

In addition, what phatphil said is so, so true. I plan to absolutely get it together and move to the Gulf Coast.

I have not been to Miami in years. It looks like you had great blue skies while you were there. Great Cuban food. I want to do Key West. I have been just north of there a dozen times in the last two years. Next time, I will venture on down.

the Renault Winery is great for Sunday Brunch, as you probably already know... love their blueberry champagne, made right there in the vineyards. And I love their crusty roast beef they slice up at the carving station. I like taking out-of-town visitors there. Now,THERE'S a place we could meet sometime!

Most of the time I'll just take the AC expressway home, the fastest way..
thus missing out on the "close up" views of Pleasantville.
unless I'm trying to stock up on odds and ends at the do-able K-Mart on the Black Horse Pike. My condo is only a few miles from there , by the Genaurdi's Supermarket

At least those growing up in Pleasantville have a way out (50,000 casino jobs)....
as long as they have a clean record. Usually there are jobs for anyone that wants them, but of course, a lot of them are going to be "foot in the door" jobs.
I work with a few poker dealers from there, and they're real cool..
