Too bad you didn't stop in. If you're ever back in the area, get a "Marley's All-Beef with Cheese". It's a pretty good burger. Very good Ruebens too.

I can picture it. Is it right on Mainstreet? Speaking of Mainstreet, try Mainstreet Pizza if you're ever in town again. The "Mainstreet Special" is my favorite. It's a deluxe pizza.

My brother just stopped by my house. He's heading over there today for an extended Labor Day vacation. After all these reminders of the food over there, I wish I was going! There is some good food in that little town.

On our return trip from Washington DC we will be going a loop route up Michigan, across the UP and across northern Wisconsin. More later.

Andrew61083, yup on Main Street. There's one in Munising too.

We traversed the UP over this past weekend. Breakfast at the West Bay Diner in Grand Marais, MI is reported on here with photos...

                http://www.roadfood.com/Forums/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=22052

But first when you cross the bridge you have to stop for pasties on the UP and not at Mackinaw City. There are literally dozens of places right on Highway 2 but we always stop at Suzy's Pastie Shoppe just about a mile or so west of the bridge on Highway 2.

Then drive down the highway a few miles until you come to the sandy Lake Michigan beach and have a picnic.

We then went up to Grand Marais and sampled the brews at the Lake Superior Brewing Company pub.

I had the White Fish dinner. White fish is a pretty bland fish when you come right down to it but it is the fish of choice on the UP.

Our campsite was right on the Lake Superior shore just about three blocks from the pub. The day was perfect.

                  Davydd,
                  Where's my beef jerky...????????????

Actually I called the place and left a message but I never heard back (asked for email). I should try again. Though I think the place is on the market. So sad!!!!!!

                    Davydd,

Man I miss Grand Marais. You certainly hit the best ( and about only ! ) places in beautiful Grand Marais.

West Bay Diner was always great for breakfast, and I have spent many an hour at Lake Superior Brewing Co. A town in the middle of nowhere, with about 300 people, with a brewpub on Lake Superior . Gotta love it.

                    Thanks for the pics.
