Use the Restaurant Search feature

I am very new here, so I have nothing to compare to, but I am having a great deal of difficulty using the Restaurant search. I live just north of Los Angeles and I highly doubt that you've NEVER reviewed restaurants in Pasadena or Los Angeles!  If anyone can give me a pointer or two, I'd appreciate it!
