CARNE ASADA AT COSTCO

If you are a fan of carne assada,and want to try a superb marinade like I remember it in the south west,go to Costco and barbecue a package...great as is or on tortilla!

what's the name of the marinade that you got at Costco?

I have bought the "Carne Asada" in the frozen food section, you get two skirt steaks, that are marinated. Thaw them out and cook them on the grill to your liking. They are pretty tasty, maybe these are what the original poster is referring to?.....

Are they very salty?

Hi, Yes,the two steaks pre-packaged in marinade ARE what I was originally talking about...and they are great...Try them!

OK, They had a 2.5 lb. box of 2 Quantum Skirt Steaks done in a "Sweet Red Chili Glaze" (smoke flavor added) in the frozen deli case today for $9.95. That makes it roughly $4.00 a lb. I will report back on the results of the "taste test".

Tonight we decided to try the Skirt Steak we bought a few days ago at Costco. 2.5 lbs. for $9.95 was a decent price. We decided to do some Sweet Peppers and Onions and we had a bucket of Gucamole ready to go. The Meat is soaking in the pepper seasoning. It is rolled up and will open flat if you let it thaw completly. It is sealed in plastic, two packages in a box.
Here is the Skirt Steak, ready to go with some whole peppers for color. We had Tortillas ready for use, but decided not use them tonight.



We used a frying pan for the cut up peppers and onions, then set them aside and did the steaks in a (very) little Olive Oil. They shed moisture like a poaching machine would, so when the meat was medium to medium rare, their was a nice puddle of juice and seasoning. Out came the meat and in went the already soft peppers and onions to absorb some of the meaty flavor. A dab of the Gucamole and we were set for a nice dinner.



Someone asked about the salt level in thios product... It is quite salty. I would suggest using it with some other dishes that might take away some of the saltiness...noodles??? Rice????

We will be trying it again sometime soon.

All, that looks very good. I was tempted to try it but I wondered if the skirt steak came out a bit tough or chewy?

Al, you're killing me here... You need a membership to shop at Costco??????

Paul, I will say the Skirt Steak was pretty tender. It didn't fall apart, but when we sliced it "London Broil" style it was very tender.

Vic, Yeah, Costco annual membership is $50. Even for the two of us we find that we do save a bit when shopping there. Example...We are the grandparents to supply decorated cakes for various family parties. The big cakes run about $30 or so at Krogers...at Costco they are $15 and they are "way better", so with four cakes purchased in the year we come out ahead. We haven't bought tires there yet, but thats another item that would make the fee worth it someday.

This Skirt Steak was a good price. It WAS a bit salty, so serving with a salt reducing side-dish would be a good thing to do.

We skillet-heated the leftover pieces of Skirt Steak and the peppers and onions last night for a "leftover supper" and the saltiness was much less noticeable. We will definitly get a second box of this meat and try grilling it to see how it reacts to that instead of pan-frying.

Thanks for the photos and COSTCO info.They just opened up a new COSTCO in Selma,right by the Forum at Olympia Hills. Plan to go there tomorrow.I am not sure about getting the membership,since there is just me,but my sister and her boyfriend have one.They buy wine and other things like cakes,which they take over to their friends house when invited for a party.They also buy pork chops and other things and seperate them into smaller serving sizes.

Sam's Club had a free pass in the paper,guess their worried about the competion.
You can even buy Uncle Vic a car through COSTCO,as well as Triple A (AAA).
Lots of things apparently you can do through COSTCO from what my sister has told me.
Heck,I didn't even know that Time Warner employees could buy a car through the company.They have some deal with Nissan,Dodge,GM,Damiler-Chrysler,etc. according to my sister who works for Court TV,a division of Time Warner.
Heck you can even buy coffins at COSTCO.

I finally signed up at Costco, and after wandering around looking at things I realized that I should have looked before laying out $50. I didn't buy anything that day, and I won't be going back. I thought the meats looked average, at best, and the prices for the meats were much higher than I pay at my meat market, where I can get all the prime beef I want for slightly more than Costco was charging for choice.
