Name this food

This is something my mom used to make when I was a kid. I still make it from time to time, but I have no idea what to call it.

I don't really have a recipe I do it by feel.

One package of cheap hotdogs (Store brand or Corn King)
Mayo
Sweet pickle relish
onion
American cheese slices
Hamburger Buns

Grind up the hotdogs then add some onions and relish. Mix in the mayo. (Make it like you would ham/chicken salad) Open the buns and place them on the broiler pan, spread a good amount of the hotdog mixture on the bun, put a slice of cheese on the top, and broil till the cheese browns.

I just love this stuff.

A Sloppy Dog?

When you make something similar like: Tomatoe slices, bacon and cheese slices on a hamburger bun and broil it for a minute or so, Calvin Trillin calls that a "Tomato Dream". So, maybe your thing is a "Hotdog Dream".

Correction: It is a "Cheese Dream".

Actually, this sounds pretty good. Maybe I am the one who needs Roadfood Anonymous.

I think I would call it Wiener Salad. Or Wieners with the Works. Anything with the word wiener. Probably one of the funniest words to say out loud. Try it! See if you don't laugh.

I would call the hot dog mixture "Sandwich spread", which became very popular during WWII, to stretch the ration points needed for hot dogs, bologna, etc.

"Hot Dog Spread" as it sounds suspiciously like the nasty bologna spread my mother likes so much.

What you describe is my mom's "ham salad" except she would use bologna instead of hot dogs. However we never melted cheese on it.

Sounds a little like deviled ham. They must be

DEVILED DOGS!

The Germans have a name for this: Wurst Salad.
