The Worship Of Waffles

One of my favorite foods ever.

I was wondering ....
I was a huge "Aunt Jemima" waffle fan.
Original & buttermilk.
Crisp & hot on the outside ....
Dense, moist & chewy inside ....
The way they'd absorb butter & real maple syrup
Man .... lol

Then I bought a box recently & it was as if they were stale.
They were round like "Eggos" & really really hard -- like melbatoast.
I thought I'd just gotten a bad box so I bought another from a different supermarket and it was the same thing.

Did Quaker change the recipe ?
If so -- does anyone know why ?

I notice that "Thomas's" -- maker of the world's greatest English muffins -- made waffles
but now they seem to've stopped.
Does anyone know what's going on with this, too ?

And I see Pillsbury's makin' 'em .
Any reports on those ?

Get a waffle maker, make a bunch golden. Throw them in the freezer in a freezer bag. Take one out when you want it and pop it in the toaster. Works perfectly, none of the eggo melba toast crap.

I've tried that, Dive -- but they don't taste the same as "Aunt Jemima" lol

I'm just havig trouble with the whole concept. It's like saying you worship burgers, then going on to say how much you love the microwave whitecastles you find in the grocer freezer section. I'd go out and try this miracle waffle that's better than fresh but you say they changed.

Alas, how many forums on this site have mourned formulas that used to be.

Seems like a waste of a good waffle:

There is nothing like a homemade sourdough whole wheat waffle. Just waiting for the weather to get cooler to spark up the old wood cook stove.

Or, just head out to your nearest Waffle House and order a pecan waffle. They are absolutely my favorite waffles to eat.

I am not a fan of pre made waffles that are frozen and then reheated. I do not have a waffle iron and I sorta do without. Since there is just me, I saw one at Walmart for around $20.00. I think I will buy it.

I had a friend who used carbonated water to make his waffle's. He said it made them very fluffy. Makes sense to me??? I like them crispy on the outside and tender within. I enjoy them with a good quality syrup and with bacon or sausage.

I also have to have hot syrup.

I followed a recipe once that had me separate the eggs, folding in the egg whites after beating to a soft peak. Came out real good, but I'm too lazy to do that every time.

DD, I did a recipe like that, with separated eggs, once also. Something makes me think it was from the Fannie Farmer cookbook. It may have been the same as the "raised" waffle recipe, which included yeast and proofed in the refrigerator overnight before being completed and cooked.

I do recall they were fabuolous: light, airy and crispy.

Sassygrits, according to their website my nearest Waffle House is 311 miles away in Bethlehem, PA. Not my idea of a breakfast destination.

Real maple syrup or honey is the only way to go. That fake stuff is just nasty.

And anyone who glops it up with sugary fruit toppings and aerosol whipped cream deserves to be whipped….

There's just something special about a FRESH CRISPY home made waffle with warm maple syrup!! my wife likes the frozen ones--but to me they just dont have the right texture!

Not knowing the joy of spray ready whip applied directly to the tongue is downright unamerican. And you can see the hippy forum for other uses of the aerosol fumes.

A suggestion:

Some saturday/sunday while you have time, make a batch of batter and fry up LOTS of waffles.

Bag them up in a zip top bag with the air sqeezed out, then freeze them.

When you need your waffle fix, drop em in the toaster

POOF - Home made Leggo my Eggo.

Right now My favorite waffles are the pecan waffles at the Waffle House! One of Waffle House's waffles with coffee and orange juice is a great way to start a day!

Actually, there are THREE types of people in this world! The 2 you mentioned and those of us who don't want any syrup on our Waffles OR pancakes. Just load those babies up with a TON of good quality soft butter on top with 2 eggs over easy!

Correction -  -  SUGAR FREE fake syrup is the way to go! 
Seriously, it has a much cleaner taste, I can't stand the sugary kind...   I eat plenty of sugar, just found the sugar free syrup is much much better.
