A pleasant surprise... Thu, 10/4/07 3:11 PM (permalink)
My girlfriend and I went to a comedy club called COMIX in the Meatpacking District of NYC the other night and saw some pretty good comics. They had a decent menu and I decided to get a burger after seeing and smelling them going to other tables. I ordered it medium and upon the first bite, I had juice on my hands and I spied a nice pink center. It came on a brioche roll with bacon, cheddar, lettuce and tomato. I couldn't believe how good this burger was! I certainly didn't expect one from a comedy club. My fries were pretty good, but my girlfriend had pesto fries and I gotta tell ya, the pesto really works well on those shoestring fries. A wicked good meal was had that night.

Hey Billy Boy ---when in Rome----when in the meat-packing
    area order burgers.

The meat packing district should have the bestest burgers ever.

Years ago I designed the new Ladie's Room at the
Old Homestead Restaurant in that area, and I got to know
how good the meat could be if someone cared enough.

There were no Comedy Clubs in the 80's as far as
I know but there were plenty of great comediens in NYC.
They worked night clubs. The big apple is, was and always
will be the best place in the world for food and entertainment.

There I said it and I am glad !!!!

      So true!
The Butcher's Inn in Detroit's Eastern Market district makes a great burger.
Eastern Market is the main warehousing and meatpacking district in the city of Detroit.

Recently I had a delicious burger at The Butcher's along with a cold Stroh's beer and listened to "The Motor City Sidestrokers" a great 5 peice band that played bluegrass and standards from the 1920's and 30's. Had a great time.
The Butcher's Inn was built in 1870 has been serving some great food while also being variously an Inn, a brothel, and a bar and grill. (and as well headquartered a bookmaking operation for the mob back in the day. I guess bookies gotta eat too)

The district also is home to Joey's Meatcutters Inn, a favorite with the meatpackers that work in the area. Joey's serves some great burgers (including a 32oz burger) ... and is also known for their chili.
