It's Kerley's. Pretty good stuff although they can be inconsistent. I haven't been is 2-3 years. Welcome Barbecue (formerly Andy's) may be better. Love the hushpuppies. Worth a stop but better barbecue is available eight miles north in Lexington.

I'll second the Lex#1 recommendation and add another. Tar Heel Q is located west of Lexington on US Hwy 64. They're consistently very good-to-excellent. (Tough to do in that business) Most places are pretty good if you stay with the wood-cookers. Smiley's, Whitley's, Smokey Joe's, Cook's, Southern, etc. Stick to the cheeseburgers if you go to Speedy's...

We went to Jimmy's Bar-B-Q a few weeks ago and it was some of the worse Q I have ever had. The waitress told us it is cooked in an electric oven. Sorry, I do a lot better than that on my grill at home. I second Lexington #1 Dennis in Cary

So sad about Jimmy's. Another fallen angel succumbs to the siren's song of convenience. Another bit of barbecue heritage is lost...

So can anyone tell me if Lexington #1 is open on Monday or Thursdays? and their hours? I googled them but don't find a website for them. MikeS.

They are closed on Sunday and on some holidays. I have eaten there many times on Monday and Thursday. Yoy can call them at (336)249-9814 to make sure they will be open when you plan to go.

You might also consider the BBQ Center, on north main street. The guy in the photo is not loading electricity into the pit, it's real wood. Also note that "Lexington #1" is simply called Lexington Barbecue, so don't be confused by the sign.
