Anyone out there familiar with the SouthBend/Mishawaka,Indiana area? We've just moved here and have yet to find an eatery worthy outside of the usual chain style places.
Looking for Thanksgiving dinner, any suggestions other than Country Buffet? (that's what I get when I ask around)

I been here twice that I can remember - we met up with alot of family, and it was well worth the trip.

I'll send out an email to JerseyGirl.. She lives somewhere up in that neck of the woods now and may have some good clues... (I did a search here on the site, and came up with nada)...

I have heard that there is a German restaurant in New Carlisle, IN, altho I haven't been there myself. I just did a quick search online, and I'm not seeing it. Has anyone else been there?

Found it! Sounds good, but I haven't tried it yet:

Werner Moser of Austria and wife Beth are reviving authentic European cuisine in the Midwest.

Fresh, daily-made fare includes wiener schnitzel,
Austrian goulash and schweinsbraten‹pork roast seasoned with caraway seeds and garlic, all with house-made knodel, spaetzle and sauerkraut as sides. Also find American favorites like lemon-garlic chicken and New York strip steak.

Breakfast and lunch menus include special touches like homemade preserves and cornbread served with daily-changing soups. Catering available.

              Open Mon-Thurs 8 am-8 pm, Fri-Sat 7 am-9 pm.

A little east of the SouthBend/Mishawaka area is one of my favorite Amish restaurants, Das Dutchman Essenhaus (website at http://www.essenhaus.com/index.cfm?pagename=mainpage_template&client_id=essenhaus%5Fcorp&tablename=news&link_id=10204724&linkname=Restaurant&sublinkname=Restaurant). And a little further east of that is the Blue Gate Restaurant in Shipshewana (http://www.riegsecker.com/php/blue_gate/dining/menu.php#FamilyStyle). Up north in Niles, MI is Pete's Patio, an excellent and very popular restaurant in the area. And Hannah's in New Buffalo, MI has got to be one of the best restaurants in all of Michiana (http://www.hannahsrestaurant.com/entrees.html).

"The Skillet" has a good buffet and is open  on most Holidays...

For a good big home cooked breakfast try Alli's on Mishawaka Ave

Also a good place to get fresh meats, cheeses, eggs, and produce is the South Bend Farmer's Market.
