I'm thinking of signing up for Gevalia. Any general advice/opinions? What's their good breakfast coffee (I like strong)

I don't know about the product. They have a huge warehouse just south of me here in LA. What I would say is this: I live in a loft building where the parking lot is gated, but... Tons of street people get in all the time and go through the dumpster. Now, when Gevalia gets delivered here, UPS just leaves it outside, no signature, and anyone can grab it. Why would they? BECAUSE THE BOX SAYS "GEVALIA" ALL OVER IT!! Hey! Want some free coffee?? This is so stupid of them. So, if you are at risk for that, beware. -Scott Lindgren scottlindgren@netzero.net

It's an iffy faux-Scandanavian scheme that sells you overpriced coffee beans or ground coffee. Cheers, John

The best deal is to take the sign-up inducement (usually a coffee maker), back out of the agreement after the minimum purchase requirement is met, and then buy your coffee beans elsewhere. If you want a really great, strong coffee, I strongly suggest Whole Foods' Organic Pacific Rim Blend. I buy a bag every couple of months, grind the beans myself, and make the coffee in my Gevalia coffee maker. A great deal, all around.

I subscribed for a while, mostly for the flavored coffees. I did enjoy the coffee, but I felt the customer service was a bit lacking. They sent me a postcard offering me 2 free mugs if I bought their newest flavor. When I tried to take them up on the offer, they said they had sold out and it was no longer available. I then ordered it on line. Got it with no problem. I cancelled my membership after that, 1) I really don't like being lied to, and 2) I couldn't justify paying that much more money for coffee. It's good, but not THAT good, in my opinion.

I always pay by check so any additional coffee shipments they might make after my cancellation end up being free also. I do think their coffee tasted a lot more "special" when I first tried it over 10 years ago. The last few times I didn't think it was "all that". pb
