Well, It's soon to be American Royal time again, but more importantly, this thread generated the "Roadfood Haiku" thread. Along with Memphis in May, the Royal is one of the "major Q cookoffs.

Bill, We will be headed for the Big Pig Jig in Vienna Georgia that same weekend. The "Jig" is one of the qualifying events that get teams in line for a shot at the KC and Jack Daniels competitions. Vienna is about 45 miles south of Macon Georgia. Anyone else planning to visit the place? We'll stay at the nearby Ramada for a couple of days. It will be the Southern end of our Road trip that starts in Wilmington Deleware next week. And you Folks interested in Ham... Don't forget the Cadiz Kentucky Ham Fest the following weekend (Oct 8-9) Several of us will be there! We are talking about a three stop tour plus the festival. Friday Lunch at Mr Hays SmokeHouse in Lexington TN, Catfish for supper at the Riverview in Ashland City TN..the festival... then close out at the Owensboro Moonlite BBQ on Saturday afternoon.

Wish I could be there Al. I will be judging an FBA contest in Mulberry, FL that same weekend. One of my cooking buddies will be at the Pig Jig as a judge. His name is Tom Lowe. In fact, he and I along with two other guys will be cooking a contest in two weeks over in Grant FL which is just south of Melbourne. Fortunately, it did not blown away with Frances. Have a great time! John

HEY, Exciting news! Look at the royal's website. 100 vendors serving the Q, + blues to the public. This is the 25th annual event., and all new. If you are a native KC'er like me, the American Royal always meant the best parade of the year, the decorations on the lightpoles, horses, marching in the old arena as a cub scout, and lots of live cows, pigs, and sheep, and other banyard denizens. This Q contest is a much more effective use of these animals than parading them around a dirt floored barn. Q, the holy grail. http://www.americanroyalbbq.com ....and Mayor, count me among the envious. That sounds like a tour we need to see pics of. Bill
