Pete's in Hadley, Massachusetts Closes

Pete's is about the only short order dog and burger place around the Amherst/Northampton area ... I thought they were once listed on Roadfood.

Anyhow, they closed yesterday ... "Biz for Sale" ... Huhhm, I wonder?

It was reviewed, but prior to their expansion.
Maybe the expansion was too much for them.

It appears as though that link is now dead.

I, for one, wish that there was an easy way to find archived reviews. They do hold some historical value. Perhaps there is a way to link to these in a separate section labeled "archived reviews" (or something) and note on the review in some bold, unmistakable way that these are archived with an explanation?

That's sad. I had Pete's in mind for the next time I take a day trip to the Happy Valley. I thought the place had been around long enough that it was on pretty solid ground (so long as someone doesn't decide to put in another mall).

Let us know if you hear any details on the closing.

Next time you take a trip to the Happy Valley, let me know ... I'll tell you some good spots. However, if is around lunchtime on a weekday, the pickin's are slim.

Yes, years ago when I spent time in the Valley I remember eating a lot of breakfasts. They seemed to be the real meal-deal at many places on the weekends, no matter what time of day. That's one reason Pete's intrigued me.

I went by there on Saturday.

Although the Biz 4 Sale sign was indeed there, they also seemed to be still serving customers (we didn't have time to actually stop in). Hopefully, this is just a case of selling the business to new owners/management, and not actually closing outright. The business is for sale.

Funny ... This was in the paper:

Hot Dog Hot Spot Shuts Up Shop
KEVIN GUTTING Pete's Drive-In, at 287 Russell St. in Hadley, has closed and is for sale. The message on the restaurant's telephone answering machine for Pete's Drive-In said that, after 17 years, the owner, Patrick Serio, has decided it's time to move on and thanked customers for their support. When reached by phone at home, Serio declined to comment on the closing. Pete's was voted the Best in the Valley in the Valley Advocate for a number of years for its burgers, hot dogs and fries, and received a positive write-up by the Phantom Gourmet.

Greg, I, too, am sad that I never got over to Pete's. And I've been trying to nail down a truly great burger/dog shack around here worth reviewing. I've eaten at drive-ins in Hampden, Palmer, and Wilbraham, and all have one item that's above the rest -- but none truly great overall. Bummer! But hey, let's go down a few at the White Hut sometime, 'kay? Chris
