Dinner from Zaitzeff (with pics)

My gf and I had a friend over tonight and we had a hankering for burgers and this place, Zaitzeff has always done right by us so we had a few delivered and they were great as always. It's located at 72 Nassau St. Manhattan (bet. Fulton and John Sts.). Phone # 212-571-7272. I guess it could be considered the Financial District/Tribeca? Anyway, we've never actually been inside (always delivery) but in passing it looks like a very small takeout place with maybe a few stools inside.

Here is a cross section of my sirloin burger ($8.25). They are all served on toasted Portugese muffins and cooked to medium, just the way I like them. They come with lettuce, tomatoes and grilled onions, but I asked to have them left off and got sharp cheddar instead for $1.00 extra.

We all ordered them medium and everyone was very happy with them. Moist, juicy and just a really good beefy flavor (except for the turkey burger, of course)!
This next part is another thing I really like about them. Their mixed fries ($4.75). A side of regular and sweet potato fries that do get a wee bit soggy in transport, to be expected, but do retain a good level of crispiness, just leave a touch of grease on the fingers and have an excellent potato flavor. They don't salt them, which I like as it allows me to control how much salt goes in me and I really do taste the true potato flavor first. I highly recommend these!!

How are they cooked? Over flame or on a griddle?

Good looking burgers. Tell them to punch some holes in the container with the fries to let the moisture out.

Or just put them in a paper bag.

I have this one Chicago beef place I go to and they know to put my fries in a paper bag whenever they see me. Much better!

RibDog, wouldn't the paper bag create a steam effect on the fries as well? Similar to steaming the skins off of roasted red peppers?

I envy you, living in NYC, cause one can never run out of places to try! A different place every night.. and if they don't deliver, you can just take a quick subway ride/walk to take it out!

Is Zaitzeff a burger joint or a restaurant that has hamburgers on the menu? Yours looks mighty good, especially with that nice covering of cheese.

These burgers look delicious. I find it amazing just how many good burgers there are in NYC. I just wish I was able to be there more often so that I would consider eating burgers instead of Italian, Jewish deli, pizza and all the other great NYC things that I cannot get at home.

At home, one of my favorite ways of serving burgers is on an English muffin.

Those fries are the best I've seen on this site so far.. PERIOD.
But thanks Travelin Man.. I couldn't place the name on that bun, but English Muffin pretty well did it. In my neck of the woods, that would never fly. I'm more then willing to sample a burger the way it's been presented, but them old standard white flour buns seem to rule here..

I believe that Billyboy describes them as Portuguese muffins, but English muffins were close enough for me.

Just to clarify, when I said "serve", I really meant for myself or guests - I am not serving anything in a restaurant to customers. I don't know how well those would go over here, either.
