Lotta Cola

When I was a kid it was the first 16oz. soda, it was good, anyone remember it?

No...how long ago was that?

Late 50's, before dirt!

I remember the jump to the tall 16 oz bottles from the 12 oz. In SoCal I recall "Double Cola" Pretty nasty aftertaste...BUT "Bubble-Up" was just like "Seven-Up" and you got 16 oz for the same price as the smaller bottle of the other brand. It was difficult to down a whole Bubble-Up with stopping to let your throat heal !! That must have been in the mid-1950's.

i remeber in chicago the deposit on the bottle was almost as much as the soda as a kid so we would buy it and guzzle it right there

I grew up on Double Cola, and am still crazy about it.  More cola flavor and less sweetness.  Thankfully, it's now available in an original retro version (real sugar, real glass) from Orca Beverage Inc. in Mulilteo, WA. and Galco's in Los Angeles.  Double Cola's sister beverage "Ski" (made with real orange and lemon juices) has a huge cult following.

I don't remember any 16-ounce bottles of soda, but I do remember drinking nothing but Pepsi Cola and something called X-Tra Cola in the '40s because they each came in 12-ounce bottles while Coca Cola had just six ounce bottles for the same nickel-a-bottle price.

Chewer, I would ride my bike for a RC Cola and a hot link, on white bread, when I was a kid. It was a spicy greazzy delight! Oh, and cheese enchiladas from El Chico. I would save my lawn mowing money to use for such treats.
 
I have never had tha pleasure of a Lotta Cola. :~((

I seem to remember a radio 'jingle' that went something like, "Whatta lotta - - whatta lotta - - whatta lotta Cola!!!!" 
I didn't drink much 'pop' when I was growing up - - my swim coach said that it was bad for me with the carbonation - - he said that he much rathered that I would have a glass of beer - - at least that had food value and natural carbonation.....  50 years later, I still use that as my 'excuse'....... 

Mammaduck, I'm kinda tha same. The only time I drink a sada is w/ a greazzy hot link on white bread. Beer... that another story. :~) Oh, but I was also a swimmer. I could dive off those little bitty high boards. Tha breast stroke was my best swim. (this is an AAU event guys). Get your minds outta tha gutter!.

Oh but, I would have to try some of those high end sodas that Chewer offers when I have tha chance. Especially tha Root Beers!

Joe - - how funny - - - I was also a breaststroker!!!   My coach also didn't allow his swimmers to go off of a diving board - - said that divers only swam to the wall to climb out, and swimmers only dove from the starting blocks...
I was a freshman in college before I ever tasted 7-up.....  And that's when I tasted coffee for the first time - - I drank juices and tea.... 
I eventually developed a taste for various types of sodas - - - and I, too, like the boutique type brands....  There are several here in Wisconsin that are interesting....  And some I have yet to try....

We look forward to an upcoming trip to see my daughter in Wisconsin. In addition to the family ties, she always stocks up on the Sprecher's Cherry Cola...and a couple of the Sprecher's Cranberry/Cherry also (Red Ravin'). Those have to be our favorite flavors anywhere. The Root Beer is good too, but nothing matches those Door County Cherries and Honey in the Cherry Cola !! We will bring home a dozen 4-packs from this trip !
  Add to that a stop at Usingers for their Bargain Table pickin's and we will be set for snack meats til Christmas !!

Sprecher's Cherry Cola is one that I have tried, and they have a fantastic RootBeer and I think I have tried their Creme Soda....  I didn't realize what a treasure trove is available here - - in all sorts of foods and drinks....  Every day is an adventure...  We did Door County last weekend - - brought home dried cherries and a couple of baskets of apples...  There were some interesting local wines available, too....  Tried a chocolate cherry wine that could be a dessert all on its own...  Delicious....
