Yes Mellow, soft yellow corn tortillas. I use 2 per lb. of meat. I guess you could use white corn tortillas but I like the flavor of yellow better.

KingT, nice to see the use of celery in your recipe.

Mellow, fun to re read this thread! Celery has been a commonly used ingreadent for Chili for as long as I can remember. You would never be able to count the number of recipes posted on the net that contain some kind of celery seasonings. And dont forget Mr. Woods winning Terlingua chili recipe! You have just scratched tha serfice of the tip of tha iceburg concerning my mentions, for many years, of celery and chili around here. Back then hardly anyone even noticed. :~)

Now about those corn tortillas melted into chili... That's something you won't hear mentioned anywhere very often. Shhh, it's a Texas Chili secret!

You're saying soft corn tortillas, 2 per pound of meat; add them early, and they disintegrate and thicken the chili, right?  That certainly sounds easier than concocting a slurry with corn flour.

Yep, yep, yep, yep, and yep. And it makes the chili taste better. At least I think so. I have also been mentioning this for years around here. Sometimes the best place to hide something is in plain sight. :~)
