Playboy's Top 10 Burger List

Just saw the article and I've tried two. Dyers rocked at the original location when they had all of the political signs and pictures up. Now it has gone the way of the Rendezvous and seems to be a tourist trap. Huey's in Mid Town is the place.

Now Anne's Snack Shack is a different story. Tennessee Trash took me there and I must just say WOW!!! Truly a high water mark in his selections of waist expanders. I have pictures somewhere but I'll have to let TT write about it because I would still be oblivious to it but for him.

I've never been a big fan of Dyers. To me, Dyers is more of a novelty than anything else. Dyers burgers are too small for my liking. Ann's Snack Bar on the other hand is the real deal. The world famous Ghetto Burger is absolutely devine! The Ghetto Burger is a hand pattied double cheeseburger with onion, bacon, chili dressed up anyway you like. The best part of the burger is the hearty dusting of Ann's special seasoning salt once the burgers are almost finished. No one really knows the exact formula but you can definitely pick up a heavy dose of cayenne pepper.

It's been a while since I've been to Ann's but this place is definitely worthy of a special trip. Make sure that you prepare yourself for a long wait. Ann only serves 8 people at a time and she runs her place like an old stoic school teacher (i.e. dont speak unless spoken too). And make sure to follow Ann's rules. If you dont, she will give a good tongue-lashing!

FWIW, the best street experience in Tennessee is Cumberland Avenue on Saturday's during football season! Go Vols!

The reason they dip the buns into the grease a little bit is to get rid of it so they can add more. I wish my deep fryer grease would last 100 years too. Dyers is just like Huey's were the experience is king. I knew Dyer's moved to Bartlett but if they are exclusively on Beale now that is crazy. Like the downtown businesses, no one needs to be down there after 4pm.

BTW TT; Ever have a Danver Burger? That is Memphis at it's best.

Best street experience in Tennessee is the "World's Longest Yard Sale." No where else in the country can you get ran over at 70 MPH while trying to buy used baby clothes.

As far as Atlanta goes, Ann's always gets a lot of raves, but I think there are others just as good, without having to wait, wade through attitude, and carry a BUG...that's back-up gun! They ain't kiddin' about the "Ghetto" part. I thought it was a mess to eat, but some folks love that grease factor. Something I think Ann was actually trying to achive. If so, she did it!

Personally, the Vortex makes me happy. Lots of different burgers, fixed a lot of different ways. I like the "Ragin' Cajun" Ostrich burger. Overall, superior bar food, all the way around. Plus, I like young girls with ink & pierced things!

My other favorite is The Highlander on Monroe Dr. Kinda like the Vortex. Again, superior burger, superior bar food, and more hot chicks with nose rings.

Maybe the biggest burger in the city, is also one of the better ones. It can be found at the Downwind Restaurant, located inside the Peachtree-Dekalb Airport. Great date place, as the deck overlooks the runways, and you can watch the planes take-off and land. Fun!

The Vortex (in L5P) is great. Never been to airport location. Ann's is closest to my location when I am up there so that about settles it. I am liscened to carry a BUG so that is not really an issue either.

Did the Owl Bar in San Antonio,NM make the list? Green Chilies have to be in there somwhere. Hey any opinions on Redamaks burgers in New Buffalo,Michigan?

Dad and I are fans of Redamak's, making a point of stopping there on many of our trips into Michigan. It is a convenient place to stop as it is the first interstate exit as you enter the state from Indiana.

The one drawback to Redamak's is their "Workingman's Lunch Special" which is served from roughly noon to 3:00pm. At first glance the less than regular menu price for a burger and fries seems like a bargain. The downside is that the reason it is cheaper is that all the burgers served during this period are prepared assembly line style, well in advance due to the high volume.

If you get there during the height of the rush, you will more than likely get a fresh sandwich. If you get there near the end of the special, you are probably getting a burger made quite a bit earlier.

Sometimes it's better to pay the extra buck and get a made to order meal.

Other than that, we've always been impressed with the flavor and high quality of the food.

I haven't heard of any of these places. I just moved to New York. I want to try Shake Shack.

I was hoping the article would have pix of playmates tearing in to a big 'ol burger.
