Salami Sandwich..What type?? Thu, 03/27/08 12:49 PM (permalink)
You want a great salami sandwich. What type of salami is your preference? I'd want a high quality Genoa salami! Of course there's hard salami and so many others...which would you choose??

Hard, sliced thin. The other is good too. Sometimes hot. mmmmm...so unhealthy.

Good point..I think all salami should be sliced thin...genoa doesn't work for me either if it's too thick.

salami is much better just eaten out of hand, don't you think? I tried a new twist- found a salami made with red wine ( at Central Market) and sliced it thin and added a smoky cheese, put it on crackers- YUM! But I find that salami just doesn't work well for me, at least, on bread....usually slips and slides and you wind up with no bread and lots of fill or vice versa. And I really hate that!

I've always loved the chunk logs of Hebrew National salami that are in most supermarkets, usually in the hot dog section. It goes great on both crackers and in a sandwich.

I don't know if you were joking, but I love it this way. I convince myself that it is even healthier as some of the oils cook out.

I grew up with Oberto Italian Dry Salami chubs, we always had one in the fridge. We can't get those here, now we love Columbus sliced dry salami.

Every time I go to the Russian deli, I get some bear salami. It is not my favorite salami, but where else can I get Bear in Maryland?

Well, you could always hunt one. There is a bear hunting season in Maryland.

For soft salami I like the Hebrew National on rye with mustard and for the hard salami I prefer sopresotta on Italian bread with olive oil and chopped peppers.

Now just add a little ketchup and it'd be perfect!!

I'm not sure who makes them but I like the "gourmet" salamis I see in the grocery store. The cross-sectional diameter is less than the lunchmeat/deli varieties but they're tasty; some are made with red wine, others are coated white black or green pepper...unfortunately they're a bit expensive at $5 or $6 for a package that comes in around 6 ounces or so.
