Iraqi Food - Leafy Greens Sun, 03/30/08 10:40 AM (permalink)
This is for azri or another. I thought it deserved a new thread rather than continuing under the picles discussion below.

I'll pose this question instead of running a search here or GOOGLING.
Are leafy greens or potherbs such as cabbage, kale, mustard greens, or turnip greens or similar part of the Iraqi cuisine? If so are they typically prepared fresh or after preserving by salting, etc., like saurkraut or drying?

Did you ever make your trip back to OKC? If I'm not too late, there is a restaurant in Edmond you might like called The Garden. It's run by a lady from Iraq and she puts out a great all-you-can-eat buffet in the evenings for--get this--only $5.99! It has a lot of excellent middle eastern and Iraqi food on it, not to mention some of the best pizza I've ever had. No greens, though, except for a spinach-based soup.
