I was in Des Moines IA this past weekend and had a chance to tryDaddy O's for the first time, and I was impressed. I bought brisket, pulled pork, turkey, and ribs (all apple-smoked), and they were all moist and tasty. Of the sandwiches my wife preferred the brisket (which is shredded and not sliced) but I couldn't decide that any of them were that much better than the others, so for me it's a tie. He's in Grimes in the Phillips 66 station on the southeast corner of NW 54th St. and IA-141. Some clickable thumbnail photos:

There's a place called Delancey's next to Campus Cleaners on University Avenue near 27th St., across from the Drake campus. We didn't have any barbecue while we were there as we chose a pork tenderloin sandwich, but he uses a small vertical offset smoker that sits in front of the restaurant. It's a small place with only 2 tables inside and some picnic tables outside, but it's tremendously convenient for students. I can't say anything about the barbecue but I figure it's at least worth mentioning in case someone might be interested in trying it.
