There probably several threads on intersting or unusual ice cream flavors...but after reading the New England Ice Cream Tour reviews, I had to discover my own new flavor.

Five of us headed down to the city - Chicago - to the Bobtail Ice Cream Factory. One of their specialty flavors is called Signature Sunset.

Signature Sunset is a Merlot based ice cream flavor with dark chocolate chips added. It was creamy and smooth, with a distictive red-wine Merlot flavor and complimentary dark chocolate pieces.

Most surprising to me was the great Merlot flavor. It added a burgundy cherry like color to the ice cream base and a wonderful taste. The chocolate paired well...really well!

My second tasting flavor was Winter Commute, a pairing of white chocolate ice cream and macadamia nuts. A solid flavor, but if there had to be a winner, it was Signature Sunset.

Bobtail makes their own ice cream and specialty items.
