And good luck finding a Lonestar, as many (but not all) of those folded, as well..

I am taking the entire family to Ruth Chri's in Knoxville on 12/13/08. This is my daughter's BD and Friend, Iwanago's is graduating with her third degree. This time it is a MBA. The family will include Mamaw Smith, son in law, two grandboys and a friend of Mamaw's. That will total up to eight folks.

I suppose it will get a bit pricey? I really do not have any idea as daughter, Paula wanted to go there.

          Yes! Bring your wallet, Paul...
$38 for a steak; (they come a la carte), at least $8 for each side dish. And you want a salad? That's another 8 bucks or so.
Hopefully, they have some sort of kiddie menu for the grandchildren..
          (assuming their still kiddies!)

It's fun going there every so often , though..
and this sounds like quite a special occasion for you..
enjoy! (and make sure to report back to us!!)

The boys are 5 & 7. If they do not have a children's menu, pperhaps they will let me split?

I understand the sides are huge. I may let most order the entree and I will order veggies and potatoes for all? I will probably do the same for desserts.

I've eaten at the Beverly Hills location a few times. NOT impressed at all. Way too many tables in ratio to floor space and the sound level made hearing the person sitting next to me quite difficult.

Yes the steak and sides were good, but I could have similar elsewhere while being more comfortable.

I can eat a delicious steak in a shack and love the situation. Comfort level is as important to me as the taste.

My wife and I used to go to the Ruth's Cris in Kansas City for special anniversary type events, but the last time we went I found the food to be not quite up to the usual standard and the service was fair at best. Considering what you're paying, you expect excellent. We have not been back since, but previous to that visit I would say it was one of the best steak restaurants in a city that prides itself on beef. Nowadays I would recommend the Morton's steakhouse restaurant chain out of Chicago - always excellent, but equally high-priced as Ruth's.

I agree with the Morton's recommendation. I've had some disappointing meals in three different Ruth's Cris.

Agreed!! Cause when one pays so much more, we've got higher expecatations, and it's more of a letdown.

I've had some real good meals at places that Baah Ben mentioned in the "Armegeddon" thread, like J ALEXANDER'S and HOUSTON'S . Those places still offer a nice upscale feeling, but are more fairly priced. Even though they are chains, they are in only select markets, and not saturated everywhere.
Just wish they were located near my A.C. area...!!!

Funny. I always loved the BH Ruth's Chris. It was downhill the last time I was there (inattentive and curt service).

Actually, I went to the Boston location in late July, and they forgot to bring a side and then when they did, it was prepared improperly (runny and cold au gratin--unimaginable--yes, they replaced it, but it had come late in the first place, and I finished my steak by the time it showed up). The steak was "eh", and it took them ten mintues at the bar to notice me. And it was slow (jeez, I am making myself progressively angrier the more I think about this).

So, I am fairly sure Ruth's will not be my choice for a steak if I see an alternative close by.

I echo that comment about J. Alexander's and Houston's. I recommend the calamari appetizer at J. Alexander's - very good stuff.
