Peak Bros. BBQ in KY has reopened

This notice was in the Henderson, Kentucky newspaper this week. Peak Brothers cooking again Peak Brothers Bar-B-Que has reopened in Waverly after rebuilding from a Nov. 2, 2006, fire in the cooking pit. That's just in time for Peak's to celebrate its 60th anniversary. Brothers Buddy and Barker Peak opened the first version of the restaurant on the Fourth of July in 1948. Peak's reopened on Wednesday [June 11], and at 3 p.m. Friday the restaurant was so busy that Irene (Peak) Rich couldn't break away from the kitchen long enough to take a phone call from a reporter. The new 5,800-square-foot restaurant has three dining rooms, two of which can be used for private groups. Smoking is permitted only in the separate bar area.

Thanks for the update, Louis. We have been to the earlier version of Peak's BBQ and look forward to going back the next time we head west from Henderson to Paducah.

Louis- Is this the place you had previously mentioned that was so good? I'm glad to hear they are up and back in business again.

This is the same one, Buffetbuster. I took the Sterns here in February 2006, but their review for it never made it to this website. I believe the idea was to put it on this site 30 days after it had appeared in an article in Gourmet magazine. About three or four days after the article hit the newsstands (around Halloween 2006), the restaurant burned down. (Talk about bad timing!) So maybe their review will appear on this site someday. From everything I've been able to learn, the food is the same; the only difference is that it's in a new building. Same really distinctive barbecued mutton (very different from the Owensboro, KY variety), and the same great barbecued hams (which are shockingly potent!) By the way, for those who are interested, here is when they are open. Monday (closed) Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday 10-10 Friday, Saturday 8-11 Sunday 8-3 I'm especially pleased about it being open on Sundays. It's really hard to find good roadfood-type restaurants around western Kentucky that are open on Sundays.
