According to the news releases this shape and construction fits better in your refrig., ships easier and with less 'box' support, stacks in the coolers better..etc We have been buying this shape container at Costco for some time now. It is no big deal, one way or the other for us. Sure is better than the old paper "fold the top back to make a spout" idea used in the distant past.

Yeh, they seem to work fine....just noticed there's a lot of unused volume...milk doesn't quite fill the container

Having the opening on the side of the top is always less messy than in the middle. What I don't like is the handle on the top half of everything. It makes no sense and is hard on your wrist. Put it on the lower half which makes much more sense and would make you feel like an agile muscle man/woman.
