I have a "hand powered" waiters corkscrew that works incredibly well.

I was never adept enough to make graceful use of the "waiter's friend", but I've always made do with a manual (heaven forbid that a modern American would actually use his own muscles to open a bottle) lever corkscrew that does the job. SCREW the ELECTRIC CRAP!!! Cheers, John

Take it from someone who opens just about a bottle a day , this is all you will ever need.

We have a friend that has an electric wine opener. Of course she thinks it's great, but I've used it a time or two and wasn't awed by the experience....we have a "rabbit" or what ever they are called, which works great. Starting to see lots more twist offs these days anyway...I wonder if corks (real ones) will eventually become a thing of the past. How often have you opened a bottle of wine and it has been "corked?" It's a major bummer, especially if that was your last bottle......

A lot of Finger Lakes wineries had cork problems about 6 years ago - I had several bad bottles from that vinage which I reported to the wineries and they made better than good in replacements for me. But I notice that the higher end places are still using real cork while the mid level places have mostly gone to plastic and I've yet to see a screw top from that area. (Well, we never buy Bull Hill so I wouldn't be surprised if they've gone to screw top.) Cheers, John

Brother Bailey---that is something I must have--since I open a bottle a month it would be a Godsend. I will keep it right next to my electric hard boiled egg sheller. I wonder if it works on Ripple ????? Brother Bailey Sir, I appreciate your comment on another post--- I meant to get back to you, but the little gray cells are not as good as they used to be, and even at their best they weren't so hot !!!!!!

Theedge had one and it worked great, too well in fact. :) Make fun it you like, but it sucks when you screw up a bottle of wine trying to get the dang cork out, the electic one never missed a beat.

I'm right there with you, Mr. Mariner --- Well, the gadget will be delivered tomorrow - I may have to open several bottles in order to make an accurate review of it.
