This is about beer, not any yer outlaws outthere! I'm sitting here with a bottle of Rogue's Chipotle Ale, recommended by one of us here at RF (so sorry I don't recall who - identify yerself, please), and, it's .........pretty good! It actually is made with chipotle! Has a nice smoky, spicy taste, actually tastes like...chipotle..mmmmm. Would be great with steak or chili or chile. (But I don't think I can drink the whole 650 ml. bottle - too intense) I looked up Rogue's website, outta Oregon, and they make some interesting stuff; they also include food "pairings": Pale Juniper Ale (made with juniper berries) Hazlenut Brown Nectar Soba Black (soba added) Honey Orange Whaet Beer Santa's Private Reserve ("double red, with spruce finish") Smoke Ale Barleywine etc. Who has a recommendation?

I've had the juniper and the spruce beers - both a nice "take" on the bitterness hops usually brings to the table. I guess I also just like the idea of drinking a tree.

Having twice been out to Oregon in the last ten months, my absolutely favorite Rogue brew is their popular Dead Guy Ale (I swear, that's the name). And, in fact, I've been able to get bottles of the brew on the east coast. It's more of a Maibock style ale than an IPA but what great depth and flavor. And although it's not on your list of Rogue beers above, I couldn't recommend it more. What say you, Mr. Chips

Oh! I forgot. For those interested, and/or lazy: www. rogue.com It's a neat site, if a bit overdone in details...

Many of their beers are fantastic, I am right now hooked on their Hazelnut Brown which is on tap at Soho Asian Bistro in Port Angeles, and has been for months. One of my all time favorite brews ever. Brutal Bitter is a staple beer at Peaks brewpub in Port Angeles, and it too is a fine beer with a large local following.

Rogue started here in Ashland, expanded to Newport, then saw the original get wiped out by the New Year's day flood of '97. They never rebuilt. Sad. The Santa ale was nifty. American Amber has a nice bite. Hell, try em all. It is good for our economy. You still should have gone to Astoria, Mr. 95.

Rogue Brewery is probably my favorite US Craft Brewer. I've visited their brewery 3-4 times and love their little pub/grill that's on site. Dead Guy - My introduction to Rogue. Love it. Dad's little Helper - Malt liquor elevated to greatness. Morimoto Black Obi - Who'd have thunk roasted noodles would work as an adjunct? Old Crustation - One of the best US Barleywines on the market. Shakespear Stout - Again, one of the best US stout's on the market. Backed by international gold medals. Rogue gets my money whenever I run into their distribution.

For a while last summer, Slow's BBQ in Detroit had Rogue Chipotle Ale on draft for $2! Great deal and went really well with the smoky BBQ! As for other Rogue varieties, I love the Chocolate Stout. Also has a milk chocolate/medium roast coffee flavor. The Shakespeare Stout is also tremendous, although much bigger in terms of flavor and alcohol. The Hazelnut ale is good & Dead Guy is an easy go to beer. Old Crustecean Barleywine is one of the better ones I've tasted - although if you buy the XS series, it could set you back a pretty penny. The Juniper Ale is a nice change of pace. Daddy's Little Helper is cool take on malt liquor, but cannot come close to Dogfish Head's Liquor de Malt. Santa's Little Helper is a really good holiday beer and one that I appreciate more than your typical "spiced" Christmas ales. I've had others, but they escape me now.

I too have tried Rogue's Chipotle Ale & was quite pleased with the outcome, I love Chipotles. I tried the Dead guy ale on draft the other day, a little to floral/fruity for me. The Hazelnut Brown is great but I can only drink about 1/3 of the bottle at a time. RIght now we are really into the Oatmeal Stout by Great Lakes Brewing CO from Cleveland.
