Eis mit cookie

Whenever I have ordered a cup of ice cream (eis) in Germany, it comes with a cookie stuck in on top. I don't recall seeing this in USA or other countries. Has anyone else seen this tradition? Where?

That's standard in trendy restaurants and in upscale gelato parlors. I can recall getting a cookie with my ice cream (or sherbet) way back in the 1950s/60s at Will Wright's.

Not really a cookie, but there was an ice cream place in one of the local mall's food court that used to top each ice cream order with a small chocolate alligator or crawfish. I always thought it was a nice touch, and would be fairly easy to make at home with a mold, and melted almond bark.
