Western Mass Meat Up (5/17/09) Sun, 10/5/08 3:43 PM (permalink)
I'm thinking of a Western Mass Greet & Eat …

At the strong urging of Beth and some others, I'm thinking we might be able to get some RFr's
together sometime before Memorial Day of 2009, on a SUNDAY to hit a few renowned
Roadfood stops that are favorites around Northampton.

Sunday, the 17th of May, 2009 !!!

My thinking:

Just a small trailer, set up in the parking lot of a garden shop for lobster rolls and fried clams.
The lobster roll is a specialty at $6.95 and they USUALLY have fried clams on the weekend too.

Not currently on the site, or in any current books, as far as I know … but they have a very old
Roadfood sticker on the door. I figure they once were and seeing how nobody's been around
to keep the review fresh, they have fallen out … but nothing has changed here for years.

Joe's has been the local favorite for a crackery, thin crust pizza and other "red sauce" specialties

Joe's is only open during the day on weekends between Labor Day and Memorial Day … this is
influencing the timing parameter ... I figure, it'll be warm enough to eat out in Williamsburg and
Joe's will be open still -- just before Memorial Day.

Downtown Northampton, this afternoon:

Bub's would never be championship BBQ in anyplace with any competition, but the place has held
on around here for 25 or 30 years and has more fans than detractors … and the place does have
some atmosphere.'s,sunderland

Steve Herrell is the undisputed innovator of the smooch-in (copied by many, such as Cold Stone, over
the years) … My favorite is Heath Bar Crunch in Burnt Sugar ice cream.

Fanatics would probably want to do a comparison with Chocolate Emporium. I am not a maniacal
sweet tooth … As a result, I've never seen the need to even try the Emporium even though it is just
across the street.

Finally, if anyone feels the need to walk off, or walk up an appetite, a walk around Smith College is nice.

Some Smith Pictures:

... or, for that matter there is plenty of shopping and other
things to explore in downtown, Northampton.

Sorry, I couldn't figure out how to embed it, so click on the link below the image.

My Northampton page -- with plenty of links about other things in the valley too:
… best viewed in anything BUT Firefox.

So, is anybody up for a springtime eating adventure in the valley ???
