FINALLY a REAL cheesesteak in Madison, WI... Mon, 12/15/08 5:53 PM (permalink)
I grew up "back east" in VA, but have lived all over plus a stint in Philly. I came upon a great find here the other day. Seems two or three young guys from Philadelphia decided to start their own place. I had one on Saturday and it was as good as any I've had anywhere. (one, whiz, with) They also have the Taylor Ham roll. Bread is shipped in from D'Amborsios (sp). Oh yeah, the name of the place is Big Red's Steaks. I'm going back Wednesday if I can wait that long. Now if I could just find a REAL Cuban sandwich....

Looks like they're close to the southwest corner of University and Frances. Any idea how long they've been open? Any photos of Bo Ryan (a Philadelphia native) on the walls?

Edit: according to thewebsite they've actually been in operation for a couple of years but the brick-and-mortar operation is a recent development.

Hey Brad...they had a food cart previously. They have only been open a few weeks. The inside is quite stark at this point...no pics of Bo yet...he's from Chester anyway. Are you the same guy I recommended Pizza Di Roma to? I think I recall that....anyway, see what you think of the cheesesteaks!
