Fresh Orange Juice

It seems like Supermarkets are all carrying fresh OJ, instead of concentrate, which is just fine by me, even Tropicana and all the other well known brands are fresh, is this happening in your area, anyone know why?

Most of the "fresh " orange juice I have seen state that they are made from concentrate. I used to be able to buy freshly squeezed from the produce dept., but a pasturazation issue came up, and most have stopped. Sure hope someone can tell me of a brand that is purely fresh!

There are two brands that I get that are 100% freshly squeezed and pasteurized. They are Florida's Natural and also Simply Orange. I like the Simply Orange the best. Of course, this is when I don't have fresh oranges off my trees to juice myself since I live in FL. John

This is NOT from concentrate, Tropicana has it out now, as do others.

I remember a contraption most of the supermarkets had here about 20 years ago in the produce department. It went like this. They had fresh oranges near the machine as well as containers. One would throw the fresh oranges into the machine, put the bottle under, press a button and presto fresh orange juice resulted. Haven't seen one in years though, but I am not looking for one either...I find OJ too acidic for my taste

Many of the better markets in Dallas (Wholefoods & Central Market) sell freshly squeezed OJ. Ain't cheap but, it's very good.

Ann - My Hamlin variety orange tree would be perfect for you..Nice fresh juice devoid of sugar....We must have had 200 or more oranges so far... The Valencia orange trees should be in bloom next month. Those usually yield very sweet orange juice.

A generation ago I would look forward to going to our local Mall . That would always include a visit to the Orange Julius Stand...back in the days when they would blend in a raw egg to the mixture!! One of the most refreshing beverages I have ever enjoyed.

I've never seen fresh Tropicana orange juice. It is always boiled. There is a Florida brand that is actually somewhat fresh, but it has been hit-or-miss as to whether it is available, and whether it has gone sour. I gave up, and squeeze my own now.

I got an inexpensive juicer squeezer and I sqeeze my own year round. Ann, check out El Rey Markets. I think I got 7 juice oranges for a buck this past week. No reason then to buy canned, bottled or frozen.

Hello All, We get Simply Orange. It is sinful for me to admit, but... sometimes... I crave... Tang. Take Care, Fieldthistle

I've tried all the brands and think Tropicana tastes closest to fresh orange juice. Probably due, at least in part, to their flash-pasteurization. In fact, it's so close, I stopped squeezing my own oranges. (FDA regulations prohibit the use of the word "fresh" in any labeling or marketing if the product is pasteurized.)

The only thing that taste like fresh squeezed orange juice is fresh squeezed orange juice. Once they pasteurize it, the flavor is ruined. There is no substitute.

I love Tropicana with lots of pulp when the apple cider season disappears here.

When my wife and I were in London for a week there was a little cafe down the street from our hotel.. They had a machine out in the open and every morning when I would order my OJ they would walk over, throw oranges in it sqeeze it right then... It was sooo good.. And with the weak dollar quite expensive..
