Downtown Sandwich Shop-Henderson KY Thu, 03/19/09 2:51 PM (permalink)

This little shop is BY FAR the best place around to go and get a fresh & scrumptous meal without paying an arm and a leg. The couple that owns it are the sweetest people and many of the items that you can order are their own special recipe, with everything made from scratch. My usual meal is chicken salad (with grapes) on wheatberry bread, with a side of Italian pasta salad and sweet pickles. There are a couple places in town that you can get this kind of meal, but none have the same tastes or the same great prices. The pimento cheese is also fantastic, as is their loaded potato soup and well, pretty much anything you get there! If you're ever close by, I strongly recommend going!

Please add an address and general directions to the Sandwich Shop. Henderson is not the easiest town to find specific locations!!

Al, you sure are right about Henderson. Last month, when I was supposed to meet up with our fellow poster Louis, I drove around that town for almost a half hour, trying to find the Bon-Ton Mini Mart, and was hopelessly lost. If it hadn't been for a very nice lady at a gas station, I might still be there, driving around in circles aimlessly.

There are only about 30 restaurants of one kind of another in downtown Henderson.  I can think of a few candidates, but some more information would be helpful.

I wonder if this could be Planter's Coffee House on Main Street, which has a Medieval castle motif in front, left over from the days when it was a bank in the 1920s.

But since he says it's inexpensive, it could be The Brown Bag on Elm Street.  Other than those two candidates, I'm out of guesses.

This is by far the best restraunt in town if you are looking for soup and sandwich, salads, all homemade.  They have a daily special, including drink for $6.50.  It's not a fancy place but the food can't be beat.  The address in Henderson, Ky is Downtown Sandwich Shoppe, 1321 2nd Street, phone no. is 270-830-9224.  This is by far better than Planters, Gene's or Ralph's for an excellent lunch!!
