Hot Dogs in the Philippines

I've lived in the Philippines for the past six months and, even though they say they learned a lot from us Americans, they still have far to go.
 
There is a chain of pushcarts called HOT DOGS ON STICKS. They advertise that they only use imported (from the U.S.) Nathan's and Johnsonville franks. Order a hot dog and they drown it it ketchup, usually NOT tomato ketchup, but BANANA ketchup, which is so sweet, as a diabetic, it almost kills me. I learned from my first trip, to always insist of mustard, no matter how smirky the server may look.
 
A hot dog on a stick at this place is a wiener served on a skewer. I was a little disappointed. But I did notice, listed under "HOT DOGS WITH BUNS" they had corn dogs. So leathery.
 
Filipinos hate mustard. They loved it in Vietnam (where I lived before coming here).
 
Always demand mustard, or eat it plain. There are also stands that have BUY ONE TAKE ONE (same as "buy one, get one free"). These always have sweet condiments that should never touch a hot dog. I always get those plain.

So, how is the rest of the food out there? Anything good?

Not trying to flame here but hey, why even try and compare.   I've had a lot of very bad Asian food in the US, that has no comparison to what I get here...why is that... the Resto is catering to local tastes and must to stay in business.  Use your time their to take in the local foods and there are a lot of great tastes you'll never find anywhere else.  

When I was there we ate 'monkey meat' on a stick.
I think it was chicken or pork, but it was good. I had the abodo, lumpia and pancit among other things.

Filipino food is a hodgepodge of everything Asian. Everything has lots of sugar in it, so I can't eat most of it, being diabetic.

FWIW...we now have a philipino restuarant here in Baton Rouge...Pinoy's.  I've been once...had something called Crispy Pata.  This was a pork dish...one of many at this place...losts of emphsais on the piggie.  So I'd say try the pork while you are there...probably will not have a hard time finding it.  This place here DOES have banana ketchup...I think it is tomato ketchup with banana in it.  I have the same medical problem so I didn't use a lot of this but did taste it on the meat...good.  The pork with buttered broc. and beansprouts...no problem with the bloodsugar the next day.

I was in the USAF in the early 80'S, I was told that people crack poor little monkeys heads open & eat ther brains while thay are still alive,,,,,,,,,do they still do that TUBEST ?

I've actually heard this refered to in a movie..admittedly a BAD MOVIE... but still, I have heard this refered to.  Gotta say...it sounds all urban legandy to me.

It,s very true, my friends saw it done in the early 1980's

Hasn't been done since the Qing (Manchu) Dynasty and that is in China. Urban Legend nowadays.
