Bad choice!!!! Tue, 03/31/09 1:14 AM (permalink)

We hadnt set foot in an arbys in years.  I ordered a regular RB.  I couldnt believe they charged $3 for it.  the same sandwich you got in the 5 for 5 deal/  The meat was dry and lumpy and I barely ate half.  On our FF row we have Wendys, McD, TacoBell, and BK and all of them are packed while Arby is empty.  Goes to show!

Back in the '70s I really loved Arby's; the roast beef sandwich and potato cakes were very tasty. Those days are long gone, though. The food Arby's serves nowadays isn't fit to feed to your pooch ( not if you really love him! ) Last Nov. I had an exceptionally bad experience at the Arby's in Munster IN ( both service and food ), and afterwards I sent a scathing email to company management regarding the incident. Well, it's four months later, and I've yet to be contacted by the company.... got a feeling it ain't gonna happen. I don't know what possessed me to go to Arby's in the first place that day ( I plead temporary insanity! ), but there sure won't be another visit. Same with KFC, Applebee's, McDonald's, Friday's, Chili's, etc. etc. etc.

I never realized that Arby was RB

      Oxymoron!

      Guess I'm slow.

I, too, have noticed that if you are on an All-American Highway with all the major FF chains represented, Arby's is the quietest one of all. My perception is that you get the worst value for money there for fast food fare. I have yet to objectively prove this, however.

With all the burger chains out there, and my kids always begging for McDonalds, I actually am OK with Arby's simply because it isn't yet another burger.

I ain't sayin it's a great RB sandwich.  It is however not McDonalds.

This is how I pick, define, and win the battles of my little world with the rug rats that inhabit it.

I rather drink their sauce than eat their Sandwich.

This is old news to most here:

'Restructured meats' is a term coined primarily to identify processed meat
products intended to simulate whole muscle products.

The best example of this is the 'roast beef' sandwich you would buy at
Arby's or Hardees. This meat is made from a chopped beef emulsified and
formed into a log shape to simulate a whole muscle cut of beef. It's
roasted, and it's beef, but it's not the whole round or sirloin you would
                cook at home.

Other chunked and formed, or flaked and formed, meats aboud. The 'chicken
nuggets' sold at fast food chains are made from extruded ground meats, not
                from pieces of whole muscle.

In these types of products, the less expensive ground trimmings replace
the 'structure' or 'form' of more expensive whole muscle products.

                Oh.  This sounds so yummy.

Once upon a time Arbys had a good product but, like KFC, they're going down hill fast. Around here, locally owned places like Tom & Jerry's and Beef a Roo (I know, funny name but great sandwiches, their roast beef, pork tenderloin, chicken club, burgers and fries are great! Beef a Roo has been in business in the Rockford area since 1967.) got 'em beat hands down.

Our Arby's is also the quietest FF place in town.  Their Super and their Beef and Cheddar used to be quite good, but they've ruined them while at the same time raising prices.  It's the most expensive FF in town for what you get, and it wouldn't surprise me if they soon close their doors.

The Arby's here in Lansing called it quits about two years ago. Gee, I wonder why?

It's too bad, once they were good. In the early '80's you could see the actual beef roast and they would cut to order.

I remember that.  Deli meat haunches of roast beef on a deli slicer.

I remember the hanging meat, too.  The first I saw was in Omaha in 1971.  And the sandwiches had a lot of meat.

In later years some stores had a breakfast sandwich that was pretty good, sausage and scrambled egg (patty) with cheese sauce on a hamburger bun.  I could eat a couple of them.

Restructured, emulsified, formed, extruded...  Stop!  You're making me hungry.

Tom & Jerry's is also very good. Great Gyros, Italian Beef au jus that will knock your socks off (the size of a small football, $4.79) and Meatball Sandwich w/Red Sauce & Mozzarella Cheese. Everything on the menu is great. Quality food the FF chains can't come close to.
