Stumbled onto this today, shows the realities of fast food vs the promises of the commercials.  Click on the link for more, but I will start with #14 Arby's Beef & Cheddar Sandwich

Hahahahaha!  Man, ain't that the truth.

Everything gets plumped up and pimped out for the commercials.

I saw a whole TV special years ago about how they did stuff like this.  They used hair irons to make grill marks, in the cereal adds that is really glue in the bowls, wtc... Really some weird stuff.

I'd like to see this same type of expose done with those online dating sites.

The majority of the reason for food being fake in commercials is that real food doesn't come across well under studio lights before it starts melting, wilting, decomposing, etc.

Not that they don't also do it to make the food look better so you'll want to eat it, but there really is a legitimate reason for it.

          Edit:
          Best comment on the blog!!

Um… marketing pretty much uses the same foods you get, except they spend hours assembling it, then lighting it, then photographing it. Yours was in a bag, hastily assembled by an underpaid highschool dropout. Don’t expect the photographer to stoop to that level.

I've always wondered why some ambulance chaser hasn't filed a class action suit against all of the FF joints because of deceptive advertising.

Does any one remember the movie Falling Down? The scene in the fast food place where he has a melt down insisting he wants a burger like in the picture!!!! then trashes the place. Cracks me up every time.

Not defending the practice but why would anyone expect them to not make it look as good as possible? Would you post a picture of your better half taken 30 seconds after getting out of bed?

I think the Burger King Whopper is the best example.  It looks like someone sat on it.

That site has alway been a favorite around here.  I think that the salads and "bowls" fare the worst.  I'd say that the Filet 'O Fish was the closest to the ad photo.

Remember when Campells Soup got in trouble for putting marbles in their soup so the meat and veggies would stay on top?

Hahaha, I love that movie.  I could totally relate.

Anything with cheese or some kind of sauce is just asking for it when compared to the television or print ad...

I wonder if the blogger can get in trouble for this post.  That Subway gaffe (the author's comparing two different sandwiches) got a couple of responses...

                              Hi Ann,

So does my wife. Talk about censorship, she screens every picture I take with her in it at family gatherings before I’m allowed to forward them to the others.

Great link! I hadn't seen it before. Very interesting to go through the different foods. I understand the rationale for wanting to photo your food at its best, but some of these are just over the top! They are clearly not the same item. It seems to obvious, but yet so many people are tricked by these ads.

Interesting insight! I find it interesting that they went as far as to require that shots were taken of at least one view of the real thing, but stopped short of requiring that shot to actually make it into the final edit.
