NATHANS 2009 Dog Eating Competition LIMITS?

The winner in case you missed it, is Joey Chestnut, who ate 68 Nathan hot dogs in 10 MINUTES averaging 6+ dogs per minute. Last year the challenge was much closer  in numbers downed even though the time was cut from 12 to 10 minutes. Kobeayashi seemed to be struggling this year with his 64 & 1/2 total and Patrick Bertoletti with a respectable 3rd place at 55. Overall the competition is disgusting, unhealthy, funny and entertaining all in one . How many more dogs can they possibly inhale?

 They should show some dignity and cut it to zero.  I think glorifying gluttony is repulisve.

I had a wedding to go to on Friday July 3.  I can't believe I forgot to set my DVR for this.  It's the first year in quite awhile that I missed it.

At least the Yellow Mustard Belt stayed where it belongs; in the Good Ole' US of A!

This is like saying they should ban boxing because it glorifies brutality and every once in a while somebody even gets killed. I say if these people want to do it let them do it. If you don't like it then don't watch it!

I thought it was very amusing!!!In Sheboygan, Wi., they have the same kind of competition-only with bratwurst...

beijinger, the contest was dropped from 12 to 10 minutes starting with the 2008 qualifiers supposedly due to a piece of paper somebody found (which the organization called ephemera) that indicated that the contest was only 10 minutes originally.  People involved in the competition feel that it was due to Kobayashi spewing on national television in the 2007 finals, and they didn't want a repeat in the 2008 competition.  It will be interesting to see if the time is dropped further, now that Joey has broken his 12 minute mark in only 10 minutes.
 
I agree with seatown76's reply to DecMac - everybody has an opinion, the Internet just allows people who wouldn't normally make them public to do so without fear of personal reprisal.

I once saw a Lutefisk eating contest ... each contestant was given a bucket ... the one who needed his last was the winner.

I'm sure ESPN will run this tape   "a couple more times" by and including Labor Day Weekend. I will  post here if I see it running again.Thanks to all who posted, and yes  the competition itself is funny and can be "dangerous to ones health" all at the same time. Maybe they should have a warning before the show about competitive eatting and how upsetting it can be to some who view it.                                      BUDDY
