Whole apple pie

Does any know of, or remember a place in the midwest that made an apple pie using one whole apple? I saw it on a food show a few years back, (can't remember the show's name either), bonus points for the show's name!  Seems to me it was in Ohio, Indiana or Illinois, but I could be wrong. THanks for any help. Bryon
