We just came back from a trip to Texas thru WI, IA, KS, OK . Two places stand out, one place should be shut down. Grinnell IA. Bourbon Street Resturant. This place serves some of the best food I have eaten in my life. Cajun ,Creole. No burgers,no pizza. We have been to N.O. four timesand dined at famous places in the Quarter and this place in Iowa is better than the best in LA.
Ablel's Diner in Schertz, TX. just off I-35 east of San Antonio had a line into the parking lot when we went there on a Saturday. Sunday morning the line was just as long but we waited and glad we did. Seats about fifty, three cooks on a ten foot griddle, home made sweet rolls, great food at a good price. Just the kind of place this web site looks for.
Sadly, there's the Hanging Tree Resturant in Goliad,TX. Poor food, poor service. Stay away. Really.
