New Moon Pie flavors! Tue, 08/4/09 12:55 PM (permalink)
I was surprised a couple of months ago to see Strawberry Moon Pies (Moon pies are not the most common here. They can be found in some places like gas station stores, which is where I saw them).

More recently, I even saw orange and lemon! (the lemons were weeks past the date, so I didn't take my chances with those, while the oranges are dated for October!)

They're pretty good! Anyone see any other flavors?

Seems to me that the local range of Moon Pies / Mambo Pies consists of--
    Chocolate
    White Chocolate
    Banana
    Strawberry
    Peanut Butter

Believe it or not:  Chocolate, Vanilla, Banana, Lemon, Orange and Strawberry.

The Peanut Butter Chocolate Cookie Sandwich is a crunchy chocolate cookie (not the graham cracker cookie) with peanut butter filling and chocolate coating.

In the works is a Moon Pie Ice Cream Sandwich, but I don’t think it’s off the ground yet.

Why not make your own? Seems simple enough, split the moon pie with a knife, put a scoop of your fave ice cream in the middle, squish together, and enjoy!

I really don't care for ice cream sandwiches that much.  Say hello to Snixie in Fresno for me!

Oh, I forgot to post this, just in case you like cheesecake.  Moon Pie (Chattanooga Bakery, Inc.) and a local restaurant collaborated to come up with this dessert menu item.

Blue Plate Diner’s Moon Pie Cheesecake

            2 cups heavy cream
            1 cup sugar
            1 tablespoon gelatin
            1 teaspoon vanilla extract
2 pounds cream cheese, softened at room temperature
4 regular Moon Pies, cut into 1/8-inch dice
2 (9-inch) graham cracker crust pie shells

Heat heavy cream, sugar, gelatin and vanilla extract until sugar dissolves; combine with cream cheese until smooth. Fold in Moon Pie pieces and turn into pie shells.  Chill to set.  Makes 2 cheesecakes.  Note: These cheesecakes also may be made in 10-inch springform pans using a homemade graham cracker crust.
