Wow...you know it's tough times when a place like Max & Erma's has to file for Chapter 11. It seems like more and more places are "falling" to the economy.

The story is wrong. Max beat the crap out of Erma. Erma responded by filing for an order of protection against Max. There are no problems with the economy. I hear it's getting better.

Considering the fact that every time I go by a Max & Erma's here in Central Ohio, where the company began, the parking lots are just about full, it's a bit strange. I can't help wondering what's going on with the company that bought Max & Erma's.

Michael- That was my first reaction, too. From what I have seen, the Max & Erma's here in Pittsburgh are still quite busy. I do eat at one a couple of times a month and would be disappointed if they went away.

I ate in one this summer for the first time. I liked the way the place looked; had a very nice server, and my fish and chips were terrific! It was certainly busy enough there, too.

It bought Damon's, also a Columbus-originated company, and now that's in deep trouble as they try to change it from its current style.

One year later from the original post, Max and Erma's has closed all 4 of their Chicago area places.
