Don't know of any taco burgers around here.By me,most mexican places that also sell hamburgers just call them a hamburger.I haven't tried one at a mexican place yet, though I may one day. I could make one myself with some taco seasoning and hamburger meat,,,,then go and put it on a bun. Never really heard of them before.

The place you are thinking of is Pancho's Mexican Buffet. There used to be quite a few in San Antonio, but now there is only one on the other side of town. They are however still around. I used to like to go there. The sopapillas(little pillows) are square pieces of dough that are fried, similar to beignets, and good with honey. I liked their chili rellenos, whith the puffy egg batter that was never greasy. The batter covered the whole green chili inside and there was cheese inside of the chili. Ahm,,good times. Many of the mexican restaurants around here serve burgers. Some even put beans on top. Many places also have burritos too. You can purchase the big Mission brand flour tortillas and make your own burritos.May have to try that sometime.

You can still get a taco burger here in Austin at an old dive bar that has morphed into a sports watching-tv bar. The Posse East on San Jacinto has a loose meat sandwich with salty carne molida garnished with extra melt-based queso and pickled jalapenos. If you don't like 2 dozen tvs beaming down on you, you may want to get your sandwich to go.

I think you're talking about Panchos Mexican Buffet. El Fenix and El Chico are both sit down establishmentss, with no buffet. Pancho's was great in college: lotsa stomach filling carbs and those Sopapillas were great. Last time I indulged in a nostalgic trip, the beans and rice were still good; the enchiladas what one might expect from a buffet line, and the tacos were as described above: mystery meat in a premade shell.

Taco Bueno here in the Dallas are used to serve the Taco Burger at all it's locations. Now we have made modern inquiries and were told some still do, and some don't. Ours, sadly does not.
