There is a sausage on a stick that is good. I just can't remember the brand. Those are big at the flea markets around here. Maybe I can find it with a google?

Ok, It's Farm Pac. Slow smoked over hickory embers. They are good and about 5 bucks for 4 if you can find them at a store. Brookshires in N. Texas has them.

Thanks Jim. I just read the thread on the Bratwurst taste off (I dodn't pay much attention to it the first time, I think because it would have made me jealous..) but it's amazing that Aldi came in 2nd. Saves me a trip to Wisconsin, there's an Aldi 12 minutes from here in South Plainfield.

I just enjoyed some of Aldi's fully cooked natural casing Smoked Bratwurst. It only cost $2.29 for a pack of 5. These trace back to another Chicago specialty saugage maker, Bobak Sausage Company. The carton also contains Cooked Bratwurst. I understand Aldi sold imported Nuremberger bratwurst, but I never found a package.

Oh Jeez, I think that Johnsonville sausages are not good at all.  When I want a real brat I will go to one of the local German delis.  When I want an Italian sausage I will go to an Italian deli.  I will not, under any circumstance, eat a Johnsonville sausage of any type.  They just don't taste right.   Any body else who want to eat a Johnsonville is definitely entitled to do it, but, not for me.  Sorry if I appear to be snobbish about the sausage that I eat; but, I am paying for them, after all.

I agree about Jimmy's. It's a 90 mile round trip but I drive it. I but 5 lbs at a time, not big on their meatballs tho.

I've been buying the Archer Farms brand of Bratwurst from Super Target for a couple of years now, I have to say they are pretty darn good. Not at all what you would think coming from a store like Target. The Super Target's have groceries and in the meat case they sell brats and Italian sausages. I think the brats are actually made in Wisconsin. They are flavorful, no MSG, and if you simmer them in beer and onions, then grill them, they are very tasty. I turned one of my neighbors onto them, she said she hated the Johnsonville brats but gave these a try and loved them.

I will also say that Aldi's are very good. They have two brands.. one is Parkview or something, in a cold case (not freezer). The others are Roseland and in the frozen case. Both were excellent.

I love the red package, Smoked hot sausage made with beef.

They have hotter ones, but those aren't all beef.. they also have chicken and pork in them, so I only buy these ones.

First let me say that on visits to places with more or different ethnic groups than I see at home that I enjoy eating different kinds of food, including sausage.
 
That said, in NJ do you have local or mom and pop equivalents to Taylor or Trenton Pork Rolls?  If so, are they called "pork rolls" or do you ID them by shape and color?

CD348, I am no fan of not a big fan of Johnsonville regular brats although... their pre cooked brats are not bad if you think of it as a whole new kinda sausage.

Trader Joe's currently has imported Nuremburg Bratwurst that are excellent. Predominant spices are sage and corinder.
 
TJ's owner Aldi, in Aldi stores, is currently selling domestic Deutsche Küche brand smoked bratwurst for $2.29 a pound. These are of low quality, loaded with water, fat and salt. They really got me mad. I cut into a piece with a knife and fork, and the water/fat squited onto my shirt in several places. The stain does not want to come out.

I will throw my two cents in and say the sausages from Southside Market in Luling Tx get my vote.

I'm not a big fan of chicken sausage, it has an odd texture.

Karl's Market in Menomonee Falls, WI.  Best bratwurst anywhere.  Not far from Milwaukee.  They serve sandwiches for lunch every day of the week, all you do is ask at the deli.  It would be worth the group visiting on the next Milwaukee outing.

Sorry Joe, I'm confused. Did you comment on the wrong thread?

Tdj, what I ment was that the Aldi or AmyLu chicken sausages mentioned here might not have the texture issue you don't like? Not sure cause  have not had them but if Jm and David think they are good I would give them a try.
