Roast Duck on my Weber Sun, 02/7/10 8:50 AM (permalink)
Well we thought we were going to have some snow yesterday. I always, when expecting a snow storm, plan a nice dinner. Roast Duck, Mashed Potatoes, Green beans and Red Velvet Cake for dessert were what I decided on.
Well, even though an hour south of us got slammed we didn't even have a flurry! So, of course, I decided to fire up my Weber and roast my duck outside! It was about 24 degrees with a wind chill of 11. That's the coldest I've cooked outside in. Anyway, the duck came out just great! Very smokey(Applewood) and moist!

The duck waiting to be basted with soy sauce..

It was definately worth braving the cold(and the weird looks from the neighbors).

agnesrob,  Once again I tip my hat to you.  How were the flare-ups with all the drippings?

No flareups, Joe. I used a drip pan and indirect heat.

Great looking Duck. I wanted to do some Turkey Legs and Wings for the Super Bowl.
The Chance of bad weather kept me indoors making pizza.

Here in Dallas, yesterday, I grilled (outside) a boned and butterflied leg of lamb- no pics, sorry, but I marinated it with lemon juice, garlic and shallots, coriander, cumin and olive oil overnight and then grilled it over a med-high heat.....it was outstanding!

While I am not a "Duck Meat" fan, I would gladly drive to your place just to peel the skin off that critter and munch it down in all it's crispy goodness !! That looks WONDERFUL !!

Thanks, Al. The skin is the best part. It had a very large portion of neck skin which I cut off and let cook on the grill next to the duck. It was large enough for us to share. Very tasty!

Duck and lamb are 2 meats I've never grilled and I really need to do something about that.  Agnes, did you cook it around 350-375 so the skin came out crisp?

I find that Webers are the easiest grills to cook on, especially indirect method.   I always get good results with mine.

I've never tried duck grilled outside.  I'll have to add that to my to do list.

And grilled marinated leg of lamb is something I've had a taste for, for several weeks now.   I'm going to have to get myself doing that again.    Normally, this time of year, our lamb tends to be shanks braised slowly in the oven.
