Running Away to Vegas, A Trip Report

Like many people, I was one of those who couldn't be happier to put 2009 behind me. In fact, I was so anxious to escape it, that I took up an offer from a friend to hunker down safely there while it passed. I mean, if I ran all the way to another country, 2009 wouldn't go that far to find me, would it? I have some photos but they're not all up yet. I'll post a few and see if anyone can guess where I went. (And no hints from those of you who know!) I am so wiped out I can't even hold my eyes open any longer today, but I'll get some more of these up tomorrow.

Looks like St George, UT to me. Actually the 1st picture looks like Mesquite, NV. The 2nd is St George and the third probably the area just north of St. George.

I vote with MoBob. The third one could be the Silver City area just north of St George. That area ALMOST became the retirement home of the Mayor and his Bride upon retirement 10 years ago. We were in the process of buying a 5 acre plot for our new home when there was a 'Water Rights' challenge by the local Native American group. Rather than face an issue that were were totally unfamiliar with, we altered our plans and made the choice to come to the Louisville area. We love the Red Rock area of Southern Utah...from Cedar City down into 'Dixie', and visit there as often as we can. An Alternate location...but still in the same basic region would be photos taken in Vegas itself. As it sprawls out the perception of the distance to the rocks and mountains does change as well.

That third picture could be the Lake Mead Recreational Area.

Kind of disappointed Denny did not get back on to post more pictures. Kinda left us hangin... He gave away his destination in his title "Running Away to Vegas", but still would like to know where the pictures were taken.

McBob, Me Too. This had real potential for becoming a good 'things to see around a visit to Vegas, but it just seemed to fizzle out. We really were looking at the area from Mesquite, NV to Cedar City, UT as our new home-to-be ten years ago, and still love the area even though it is expanding as fast as SoCal is!

Mayor, My parents retired to Mesquite in '95. Dad has since passed away but Mom is still there and loves the region. I used to run through there 7-8 times a year but now in Houston so down to once in a blue moon. The weather, golf and blue skies there are great. And the Casino food is not bad sometimes. Some good Mexican Restauants have opened up in Mesquite the last 3 years.
