carroway soup

Anyone ever heard of it? My mother's family is from Ukrania, and they always called it black soup. I don't know if it's an ethnic food, or a family invention. When I was a kid, I hated it. It was supposed to have medicinal value. Even though I hated it, I would always crave it when I was sick. Well, I'm 53 now, and I love it. It's one of my very favorite soups. It's made almost from nothing. some pan tosted carraway seeds crushed up to a powder,(a coffee grinder works well, but don't use it for coffee after that) some boiled pieces of potato, and a light rue to thicken it a little. Served with egg noodles. Joe
