Yow! My absolute favorite Jewish deli west of the Hudson river.
Housemade corned beef hash for breakfast...Oxtail soup and pastrami sandwich for lunch...the best smoked fish since Barney Greengrass.

I've heard wonderous things before about this. Now it's on my must-try list!

Bring both bags of gold, if you eat at DZAkins, have they gotten expensive. I think that their business must be slow as they are now doing a lot of TV advertising. Rex Allen in cloudy San Diego.

What stunned me most about D.Z. Akins a few months ago was the rye bread. Unlike the somewhat flabby slices I've gotten recently in New York's finest delis, D.Z's was rye bread with character: chewy and slightly sour, with a glossy dark brown crust. I had almost forgotten how deli rye is really supposed to be.

I have been to D.Z.Akins in San Diego one time, but that was for lunch, not breakfast. I will try and have breakfast here next time, but it will be difficult not to eat at Hob Nob Hill. D.Z. Akins is very pricy, but I never mind paying a lot if the quality is there.

By the way, this place has some of the worst parking I have seen.

Parking sucks, breakfast is worth the hassle. Go for the corned beef hash with poached eggs, and rye toast.

I've been going to Hob Nob Hill since big fins were in style on Cadillacs. DZ Akins won't let you down. If you go for lunch, try the sweet and sour cabbage soup.
